About this Course

This Post Graduate Diploma in Business in Cultural Event Management (60 credits) is aimed at unemployed and economically inactive to include recently self employed and home makers seeking to re-skill, or up-skill to re-enter the labour market and work in the Cultural and Creative Industries. The course was developed in consultation with industry and reflects the needs of industry. The Cultural and Creative sector is a growing sector of the Irish economy and graduates from this course have an excellent career outlook.

A key feature of the course is a schedule of industry guest lecturers and job readiness workshops.
Candidates with no previous experience in the cultural sector will be facilitated to gain work experience.

The objective of this course is to provide our graduates with key transferable skills, such as event planning and organisation, critical analysis, digital marketing capability, team working, financial know how and business acumen which are relevant to the cultural and creative sector.

Objectives

This is a one year Level 9 post graduate Diploma in Business in Cultural Event Management. Graduates will have acquired keys skills in Event management, Strategic management, Cultural policy, Finance, Law, HRM and Digital marketing and will be able to apply this learning to the Cultural Creative Industries sector. The distinctive nature of the course is applied and students will complete a range of project work based on real world scenarios.

Entry Requirements

Undergraduate qualification with a 2nd class honours or higher at honours degree level. Applicants who do not meet this criteria may be considered provided they can demonstrate honours degree equivalence verified through RPL. Please email 2017springboard@iadt.ie for an RPL.

Long Description

This post graduate Diploma in Business in Cultural Event Management is a business programme contextualise for the cultural sector. This is a 60 credit programme at Level 9. The modules covered in this programme are:

- Cultural Event Management (10 credits)
The aim of this module is to articulate a theoretical, contextual and practical perspective on cultural events and their management in order that the student may critically identify, appraise and plan for successful cultural events.

- Strategic Management (10 credits)
The aim of this module is to enable the student to develop an approach, attitude to and proficiency in Strategic Management theory and practice in business and / or Cultural Industries. Students will also collaborate effectively in the coproduction of a cultural map in a real world context.

- Cultural Policy (10 credits)
The aim of this module is to allow students to engage critically with the main concepts and issues related to cultural policy, both nationally and internationally.

- Digital marketing, fundraising and sponsorship (10 credits)
The aim of the module is to introduce the concepts of digital marketing as they apply to the business/cultural sector. Students will be introduced to the theory, research and best practice in developing effective digital marketing, sponsorship and fundraising strategies.

- Law (5 credits)
The aim of the module is to provide students with an overview of key areas of the law related to cultural event management.

- HRM and volunteerism (5 credits)
The module aims to equip students with the conceptual and applied skills to implement HRM management practices within a cultural environment involving volunteers and atypical employment contracts.

- Financial Management (5 credits)
The aim of this module is to provide students with a toolkit of key financial skills and knowledge in the three streams of Accounting: Financial, Management and Taxation applying appropriate software.

- Cultural Entrepreneurship experience (5 credits)
The aim of this module is to introduce students to practitioners who originated and operate cultural organisations. Students will be encouraged to reflect on their own aspirations vis-à-vis cultural entrepreneurship.

In addition this course provides the transferable and transversal skills which the National Skills Strategy 2025 deemed as essential skills for the world of work. These skills are of particular relevance to the cultural and creative industries sector providing business acumen and core business skills in short supply in the sector. The CCI sector is a sub sector of the ICT sector.
