About this Course

The Diploma in Project Management is a one-year, part-time programme that covers the critical knowledge and skills required for project management. The efficient management of projects, small or large, is essential to the effective operation to all businesses and organisations. The Diploma has been designed to help students who would like to obtain a practical understanding of how projects should be run. It is positioned at Level 6 (Special Purpose Award) on the 10-point National Framework of Qualifications.

The programme is delivered through blended learning and can be taken from anywhere in the country. Students receive comprehensive course material and can study at a time and place of their choosing. They attend 12 intensive seminars(some one-day, some two-day) over the course of the academic year at the IPA campus in Dublin 4, where they will receive lectures from experienced project managers and participate in specially-designed workshops.

Objectives

On completing this programme, graduates will, among other things, be able to:

understand the key components of project management
satisfy the business case for a project
describe project stakeholders and analyse the interactions between them
to apply scheduling tools
analyse the project team roles
apply finance and scheduling principles and tools
advise on procurement management
communicate project goals and problems


Entry Requirements

Applicants should have a Leaving Certificate with a minimum of grade D in two higher level papers and grade D in four other subjects.

Applicants that are over 21 on the calendar year of entry may enter the programme as mature students.

The IPA also recognises, subject to certain requirements, experiential/informal learning for those applicants who do not fall into the above two categories.

The Diploma in Project Management is a one-year, part-time programme that covers the critical knowledge and skills required for project management. The efficient management of projects, small or large, is essential to the effective operation to all businesses and organisations. The Diploma has been designed to help students who would like to obtain a practical understanding of how projects should be run. It is positioned at Level 6 (Special Purpose Award) on the 10-point National Framework of Qualifications.

Students will address, among other topics, the principles and frameworks for managing projects and the management process, the tool for managing projects, the critical success factors, delegation, leadership, finance and schedule management, project team roles, the tendering process, how to assess and allocate risk, information and communication protocols, quality plans, and monitoring and control procedures

The programme is delivered through blended learning and can be taken from anywhere in the country. Students receive comprehensive course material and can study at a time and place of their choosing. They attend 12 intensive seminars(some one-day, some two-day) over the course of the academic year, where they receive lectures from experienced project managers and participate in specially-designed workshops.

Graduates of this programme can present to employers as candidates with a nationally recognised qualification in a field of perennial and tangible relevance to contemporary business and industry.

The IPA recognises experiential/informal learning as an entry requirement. Certain criteria, however, must be met by any student relying on such experience to enter a programme in lieu of the formal academic qualification specified for entry.
