About this Course

This programme has been specifically developed to address a communicated skill shortage within bio-pharma/medical devices sector in the South East of Ireland for Supervisory Management development. The programme is a 15 week, 20 credit, Level 6 Award aimed at those who work in or aspire to a position of supervisory management.

The primary aim of the Certificate is to produce high calibre individuals, distinct in their abilities, understanding, skills and knowledge associated with a supervisory role in an organisation. More specifically the objectives of the programme are as follows:

1. Manging Self: Develop the professional development of the candidate in terms of advanced personal and interpersonal skills for the role of Supervisory Management.
2. Manging Others: Developed key management and leadership skills related to Supervisory Management.
3. Manging Operations: Students will apply operational excellence and lean practice for process efficiency in a Supervisory Management position.

In consultation with organisations, the course is a bespoke 15 week programme, flexibly-delivered utilising a block-release mode (2 days per month) and blended approach (2 hours on line per month) for the delivery of four 5-Credit modules over a Semester. This delivery mode was specifically designed to suit both the requirements of working individuals and that of the organisation releasing an individual to undertake an educational programme (APPENDIX see Table 1).

Professional Development: This module focuses on equipping the learner with the knowledge, skill and competence to utilise a range of advanced personal and interpersonal skills in a supervisory capacity.
Managing Projects: This module will develop the necessary project management skills required to initiate, plan, execute, control and close-out a project to achieve goals.
Managing Performance: This module will provide students with the ability to analyse operation process capability and performance through an operational excellence mind-set.
Leading: This module will give the student personal insight into their own leadership approach plus insight into that of others in order to improve their effectiveness in supervising others.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must hold a Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification.
Applicants who do not hold a Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification and are over 23 years of age may be exempted from this requirement if they can demonstrate that they are suitable candidates for the course of study.
Applicants for whom English is not their first language will be required to meet WIT’s English Language Entry Requirements for a Level 6 Business programme. The requirements are outlined as follows in Table 3 below.

Timetable Info

The Cert is a blended programme. The class time is 2 full days per month (a Friday & Saturday) for 3 months. There is one additional day - which is induction and that includes registration, etc. The rest of the programme is delivered on-line.
