The Higher National Certificate in Manufacturing Engineering provides learners with work-related skills, an appreciation of industry requirements and knowledge and understanding of manufacturing engineering. The course has been designed to provide education and training of manufacturing principals to engineers/technicians in the areas of manufacturing systems design. It delivers knowledge and skills in a broad range of specialist disciplines and is suited to those who would like a career in the manufacturing/biopharma and medical devices industries.
This course will improve the learners career opportunities of those currently working in a manufacturing environment that seek career progression and also those who would like to pursue a career in the manufacturing bio-pharma and medical devices industries located in Limerick and the surrounding areas.
This course could be seen as an opportunity for homemakers in the local area to return to the workplace, as it offers the learners the ability to up-skill and reskill in the area of manufacturing and engineering while at the same time filling an industry need.
Recent successful graduates of this programme are currently employed as test or research and development technicians, technical representatives, engineering plan technicians, junior engineers, production planners or production technicians in these industries. They now provide the employer with skills that contribute to increased efficiencies and productivity
Applicants are required to meet normal QQI entry requirements for the programme. Candidates presenting with Leaving Certificate results are required to have obtained passes in at least five subjects at grade O6 or above.
Applicants employed as manufacturing team members or qualified through apprenticeships/trade/craft qualifications, such as fitters or electricians, may also be eligible for this course based on their industry experience.
DURATION: One academic year over two semesters
