Dublin Business School, in conjunction with Springboard+, have developed a part-time Level 8 programme leading to a BSc (Hons) in Computing (Award Stage) award.
The BSc (Hons) in Computing has been specifically developed in response to a skills shortage which exists in the ICT sector, informed by Irish government policy and industry requirements.
It is recognised that there is an urgent requirement to ensure an adequate supply of ICT talent and skills from the domestic supply pool and global talent to meet the current and future needs of indigenous and foreign owned enterprises.
Computing is an exciting and rapidly developing field of study that offers excellent employment prospects and well-paid careers.
DBS will offer the final year of the programme to graduates of Level 7 ICT qualifications to applicants regardless of their employment status (and regardless of their Social Welfare payments status) with an ICT qualification seeking upskilling in that discipline from a Level 7 to a Level 8. The BSc (Hons) in Computing is a Level 8 award on the National Framework of Qualifications.
Minimum entry requirements for this programme is a Level 7 ICT qualification.This programme is aimed at those in employment with an ICT level 7 qualification such as Computing or a Bachelor of Technology seeking upskilling from a Level 7 to a Level 8.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Learners may also access this programme on the basis of recognition of prior learning or by assessment of prior experiential learning/informal learning. Such applicants are considered on a case-by-case basis. The process is implemented within the relevant school, by the relevant Head of School/Department or nominee, and is overseen by the Registrar. For this particular programme applicants will be considered on a case by case basis based upon their educational record, work experience and a capacity to successfully participate in the programme.

The BSc (Hons) in Computing (Award Stage) will prepare you for a career in a wide variety of sectors. You will build skills, competence and knowledge in current technologies, gain practical experience and specialise in Data Analytics and Big Data - a fast-growing area in the Computing sector.

The Digital Universe is growing at a phenomenal pace. Big Data comes from everywhere, posts to social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and Snapchat, mobile phones GPS signals, your online footprint and many more. As a result, there is a high demand for graduates in Data Analytics to support this rapidly growing phenomenon.
The BSc (Hons) in Computing (Award stage) will provide you with the technical skills to investigate large amounts of data to uncover hidden patterns, correlations and other insights. With these skills, you will analyse data and get answers from it almost immediately. As a graduate of this discipline you will have a clear understanding of the practical and theoretical foundations of data analytics. You will experience using current technologies for interpreting, analysing and visualising Big Data to solve problems involving big data sets.
Students will study 2 evenings per week over a 12 month period and there will be some weekends involved also.
This programme is aimed at people with a Level 7 ICT qualification who are seeking to up-skill from a Level 7 to a Level 8. People who meet the above academic entry requirements can apply regardless of their employment status and regardless of their Social Welfare payment status.
DBS fully recognises the importance of job readiness to the Springboard participant and has put in place since 2013 an integrated and comprehensive Personal and Professional Development Service titled "Jump Start Your Career". This intensive programme covers every aspect of the job hunting process and has greatly assisted Springboard participants with their job search activities and preparation for employment. All initiatives under the programme focus on facilitating the transition from higher education to employment.
A suite of careers motivation, self-confidence and job ready workshops will be delivered and timetabled for programme participants. Additional sessions will be scheduled to include:
- CV Preparation, Interview Skills & Techniques & Job searching tools
- One-to-One sessions
- Individual coaching & feedback, Review of experience and progress & Candidate/Employment matching process
Out of hours one-to-one consultations, with evening appointments, will also be offered to programme participants who are unable to attend during the day.
DBS will offer strong assessment processes and feedback tools to assist in one-to-one sessions in training on behavioural competencies style, career match aptitudes that will enhance significantly the career guidance, personal development, employer engagement and interview skills in order to maximise the work placement and employment opportunities. Significant emphasis will be placed on building communication and interpersonal confidence and skills to demonstrate own value to employer. Each participant will have access to a careers coach/mentor to support the candidate/placement matching and placement process with potential employers.
DBS also provides extensive networking opportunities for Springboard students and also liaises with external partners to enhance career progression for its learners. DBS also has extensive engagement with industry and in addition to companies who have pledged interests of placements, it has over 1,150 employers on its database and active engagement with 2,727 DBS Alumni all of whom are being contacted to offer work experience opportunities to Springboard Students.
Typically students will attend classes on two evenings per week and some weekends. Course timetables will be available in due course.
