This programme will focus on core competencies such as Pharmaceutical Processes and Production, Pharmaceutical Business Introduction & Technology transfer, Emerging trends in the industry, the Implementation of Operational Excellence (Lean Six Sigma), Legal Regulatory & Financial aspects of the Pharmaceutical industry, Data Analytics, Strategic Thinking and Leadership development and Professional Skills.
Online learning and support will be provided through the use of Moodle. Extensive Coaching & Mentorship workshops will be provided with a specific focus on individual assessment and improvement. Choose either to participate on a full-time or a part-time blended mode (evening and weekend with substantial online support)
The primary target audience are those who possess qualifications at NFQ Levels 8 or greater in a Science, Engineering or Quality discipline. Ideally, candidates will also possess relevant experience in operations, quality or engineering in one or more of the following industries; pharmaceutical, medical device, biotech, clinical trials, electronics, chemical, semiconductor or agriculture.
The Biopharma sector directly employs over 28,000 people and exports over €30B annually. Developing industry relevant skills for science and engineering graduates at Masters and Post Graduate level has been identified in the EGFSN/Forfas publication, 'Future Skills Requirements of the Manufacturing Sector to 2020', as well as the Biopharmachem Ireland report on the 'Future Skills Needs of the BioPharma industry in Ireland' published by in August 2016. The industry has traditionally required individuals with strong science or engineering backgrounds to support its manufacturing activities in Ireland. Today, there is a new skill-set required in addition to those with scientific competencies. This skill-set requires professional individuals with a strong knowledge of technology, compliance, strategy & leadership, emerging trends and data analysis as well as operational excellence. These skills need to be supported with an ability to assimilate information, make effective decisions and communicate clearly using the latest technologies and systems.
This 60 credit Post Graduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical Business & Technology developed by Innopharma in conjunction with Griffith College will equip individuals with these skills and competencies. This programme combines the scientific and business skills, delivered by experienced industry lecturers, supported by significant career development, mentorship and networking to deliver participants into a sector in need of high-value skills. The programme is targeted at those who wish to develop their career in the areas of pharmaceutical operations, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, technology transfer, validation, clinical trials and data analytics. With extensive input and participation from the pharmaceutical and clinical trials sectors, this programme is ideal for those wishing to upskill in manufacturing, compliance, business improvement, quality assurance, validation, data analytics, and clinical trial co-ordination.
This programme commenced in 2015 and obtained Springboard funding. Over 65% of the graduates from this programme have already found employment within the pharma sector regionally across Ireland. Graduates have gained employment in organisation such as Abbot, Pfizer, Eli Lily, Charles River, Enfer Scientific, Baxter, Medtronic and X-bolt Orthopaedics. In addition, numerous pharma companies (ICON, Rottapharm, Forest Labs and Alkermes) have developed their existing employees by placing them on this programme - validating the acceptance of this programme as a key development path for personnel currently working or looking to work within the sector.
The programme is delivered using a combination of classroom lectures supported by live online delivery to support regional participation and those who find employment prior to completion of the course. All classes are broadcast live and are recorded for later viewing and revision. Significant online resources are also provided to the participants. This provides the best possible options to participants irrespective of geographical location and time commitments to new or existing work. Participants will also gain access to state of the art pharmaceutical development labs and will have opportunities to present their work to prospective employers.

Innopharma has in place a comprehensive Recognition for Prior Learning policy. A pdf of the full policy is attached. Given that our programmes are targeted at upskilling and many of our students enter our courses with a diverse range of education and experience the application of our RPL policy is an important dimension to our programmes. In summary the policy ensures that all relevant prior learning can be recognised and considered for purposes of admission to programmes of study and/or for the granting of exemptions from parts of a programme of study. Potential students will be selected for the programme of study at a level appropriate to their prior learning and qualifications. For those parts of the programme exempted grades will not be awarded and are not considered in the classification of an award. Awards cannot be granted purely on the basis of prior learning. Applicants will need to submit evidence of reflective practice to support their prior learning claim in compliance with our policy and guidelines. Recognition of prior learning will be with reference to learning outcomes at the appropriate academic level. The RPL process shall at all times be consistent, fair and transparent and should ensure applicants are committed and of a caliber to be capable of successfully completing the programme.
