About this Course

The WIT Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing will commence in September 2018. The programme has been developed in response to demand from a wide variety of industries in the South East region for graduates that are equipped with a broad portfolio of digital marketing skills.
The programme has been designed in consultation with a number of key stakeholders: companies from a wide range of industries, recruitment specialists, the regional skills forum and the local branch of the Marketing Institute of Ireland.

The macro-economic need for the programme is well established. A consistent feature of National Skills reports has been the emphasis on the need for an increased provision of Marketing and Sales professionals. Digital and on-line marketing is identified in the 2017 National Skills Report as a strong growth sector with a need for enhanced human resource availability of graduates with comprehensive digital marketing skills. The suite of modules on offer in the Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing addresses this shortcoming. This is reinforced by the 2015-2017 South-East Region Action Plan for Jobs, which was produced by the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation to tackle the regional deficit in economic performance. The plan is aligned to the eDigiregion project which supports the development of high potential clusters in the technology domains of the Digital Agenda. Specifically, an eDigiregion audit of the South East identified 10 areas of potential smart specialisation within the region, of which Digital Media, Tourism, and Logistics/Distribution are notably aligned to the content and skills development focus of the Postgraduate Diploma in Digital Marketing. The 2017 National Skills bulletin also highlights that “a shortage of marketing experts required to lead product/brand management and business development” (National Skills Bulletin, 2016, p.14). The Digital Branding and e-CRM module on offer is specifically designed to provide this expertise.

Entry Requirements

Second Class Honours Degree in Business.

Students holding a non-business honours degree (second class honours) are eligible to apply. However, this does not guarantee automatic entry to the programme, but applicants may be considered for interview and short listing. Consideration will be given to previous academic business modules undertaken and relevant business experience.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Applicants who do not currently hold a full award at the required academic entry level may be able to gain admission using the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process - https://www.wit.ie/schools/education/springboard_ictskills#tab=panel-2

English language competency requirements
Applicants whose first language is not English must submit documentary evidence of competency in English. Unfortunately no places can be offered unless candidates present the required certification of English-language competency. So if you don’t have this in place already it is strongly recommended that you apply to one of the testing / certification organisations as soon as possible.
Please see WIT’s English Language Requirements for details at: http://www.wit.ie/about_wit/documents_and_policies/english_language_requirements

Long Description

The programme will be delivered in an innovative and flexible manner, consisting of lectures, workshops, group work, presentations, guest speakers from industry and academia and via E-learning mode. Participants will receive intensive practical training in key digital skills such as online content creation, web and e-commerce design, development of online communication platforms, data analytics and search engine optimisation, strategic digital planning, online branding and relationship building.

The programme is targeted at a broad range of potential applicants (business, sports, engineering, science and humanities graduates etc.) – the entry criteria are broad although those students that have previously completed business/marketing-oriented modules and with relevant business experience would be considered more favourably.

The programme is completed over an eight-month, two semester period. Both semesters will involve the delivery of three 10-credit modules, two delivered in a traditional class room context, the third via E-learning mode. The classroom modules will be delivered on campus in WIT, with classes taking place two evenings per week.
