About this Course

The programme is aimed at graduates and professionals who require specialist skills to manage a public procurement function in the context of construction works and associated design team services. For new graduate entrants to the sector it will provide a competitive edge as they embark on a career in this sector. For professionals who are already working in the area and who may not have such a formal qualification it will provide a skillset to further develop their careers.

Objectives

The aim of this programme is to develop strategic thinking about; and a critical understanding of;
public procurement in the context of construction works and associated design team services.

On completion of this programme, students should be able to:
• Critically analyse and critique the strategic nature of procurement, the associated EU Directives and Irish legislation.
• Critically analyse and critique construction procurement strategies.
• Develop and critically appraise public procurement performance measures and compliance within their organisation.

Entry Requirements

Minimum 2nd class Honours Degree in civil engineering, quantity surveying, facilities management, architectural technology, construction management, building surveying, architecture, architectural science or equivalent qualification in a cognate discipline area.
Chartered members of built environment professional bodies include such organisations as: Chartered Institute of Building, Engineers Ireland, Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland, Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland.

Candidates with significant experience in the built environment sector (as determined through IT Carlows Recognition of Prior Learning Policy), in addition to an honours primary degree in another discipline area, may also be considered for entry.

Applicants applying for entry via routes other than that listed above will be considered on a case-by-case basis through the IT Carlow RPL system.
