About this Course

The Biopharma, Medical Device and Food Sectors are key to the Irish economy - employing over 120,000 people (directly and indirectly) and generating almost €70b in exports annually. Ireland's National Skills Strategy 2025 indicates that manufacturing is expected to grow by 43,000 jobs over the period 2011-2020. As a result Ireland is experiencing a critical skills deficit in key Industries to our economy - particularly in BioPharma, Medical Device and Food Sectors.

This new innovative BSc in Process Technologies programme is addressing these skills deficit, allowing those who are currently working in entry level roles within the sectors to develop their career paths and those wishing to pursue a career in high-end manufacturing the opportunity to develop practical skills and knowledge to fill open roles.

Programme Module Content

The programme is completed over three semesters, covering the following topics,
• Medical Device Manufacturing
• Bio-Processing Manufacturing Technology
• Technical Writing
• Bio-Organic Chemistry
• Team Lead Skills & Professional Development
• Analytical Techniques
• Food Science & Health
• Lean Operations Project

Entry Requirements

Applicants must possess a minimum HETAC Level 6 qualification in Science, Engineering or a related discipline. Existing Production Operators and Technicians who want to train or retrain in the engineering and manufacturing sectors and progress along NFQ will be considered based on RPL.
