The SpringBoard L9 Post-Graduate Diploma and Certificate in Analytical Sciences with Instrument Validation is worth 90 credits. The course is industry focused to address scientific skills gaps within the Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, Food, Beverage, Water & MedTech sectors. The MSc is designed with Industry to upskill graduates with a science and engineering qualification to become specialized in the area of Analytical Science and Instrumentation Validation.

This programme runs primarily part-time over 1.5 academic years (three semesters). Two semesters are dedicated to theory (60 credits) and the third semester is dedicated to an industry-based project (30 credits). that gives graduates a full academic semester (15+ weeks) working in industry, therefore developing their industry work experience and career prospects.

If a student only completes the 1st two semesters the student receives a L9 Post-Graduate Diploma in Analytical Sciences with Instrument Validation – 60 credits.

This programme is aimed at those wishing to upskill in the latest developments in advanced analytical techniques and method/instrument validation. Thus, providing a strong talent pipeline for industry, combining knowledge, skills and expertise in advanced analytical techniques focusing on separation, detection and characterization of the material, is essential. The programme will have a strong quality validation focus, producing graduates with an expert knowledge of quality validation methodologies.
Graduates will gain advanced knowledge of the disciplines of analytical science allowing them to lead their company's quality validation programmes in instrumentation.

They will be qualified to assess the potential of new analytical technology within an industrial environment and implement this technology using quality validation methodology. Graduates will have advanced research skills enabling the continued growth of R&D and innovation in Ireland.

The programme places great emphasis on professional development, communication, management and leadership skills, all of which will allow students to develop their career aspirations.

Applicants can apply through the SpringBoard from 4th May 2022 with a programme start date in mid-September 2022.


Objectives

To develop L9 graduates with the skills in advanced knowledge of the disciplines of analytical science combined with innovative research skills.

Entry Requirements

Open to graduates and experienced personnel with a Level 8 qualification in science, life science, food science, engineering or related disciplines.

Applicants with a Level 7 in a Science/Engineering discipline AND extensive relevant industrial experience or training may be considered via the University’s recognition of prior learning (RPL) policy and process.

Long Description

This PG Diploma is an 18-month full-time programme developed to address scientific skills gaps within the Pharmaceutical, Biopharmaceutical, Food, Beverage, Water & Healthcare sectors. Each of these sectors is underpinned by a need for globally-recognised expertise in advanced manufacturing. Key to maintaining quality and regulatory standards, in addition to maintaining manufacturing competitive advantage, in these industry sectors is the knowledge of analytical techniques and associated instrument validation.
Since 2012 there has been a substantial investment of over €4+ billion in the BioPharma Chem sector. Much of this investment is in Biopharma, for enhancing the development of new skills distinct from traditional pharmaceutical (small molecule) manufacturing. Advances in manufacturing processes from batch manufacturing to continuous manufacturing is critical to creating the optimum manufacturing environment utilizing skid technology and prioritizing innovation.

This programme is aimed at those wishing to upskill in the latest developments in advanced analytical techniques and method/instrument validation. Thus, providing a strong talent pipeline for industry, combining knowledge, skills and expertise in advanced analytical techniques focusing on separation, detection and characterization of the material, is essential. The programme places significant emphasis on student learning. It adopts a practical, hands-on, approach to learning, where many modules are fully assessed using continuous assessment methods. This 90 credit programme is delivered over three 30 credit semesters. Each taught semester has a number of modules:

Advanced Spectroscopy and Process Analytical Technologies module - 10 credits
Professional Development and Communication module - 5 credits
Management and Leadership module - 5 credits
Strategic Quality Management module - 10 credits
Structure Elucidation and Bioactive Molecules module - 10 credits
Environmental Legislation and Standards module - 10 credits
Industry based Analytical Research Project module - 30 credits

The 30-credti Industry Related Research Project module takes place in Semester Three of the programme where students can be placed in industry to complete an industry related project and submit a dissertation on this project.

The delivery mode will be blended, which means that lectures will be online, with tutorials and practical sessions on campus. This will of course be dependent again this year on Health and Safety requirements.

Project:in Semester 3 is carried out in an industry or applied research setting. We are happy to consider applicants who wish to carry out this work at their current place of work, where relevant and possible. Our placement and project coordinators will work closely with applicants to place students in their desired roles and industry/research settings, where possible.
