About this Course

Business faces new and unforeseen challenges resulting from the global pandemic, increasing inflation and Brexit but the most significant issue is climate change with an urgent need for action. The PG Certificate in Sustainability Leadership in Business is designed to equip business professionals with a comprehensive understanding of sustainability principles and the knowledge required to apply evidence-based sustainability tools to decision-making as well as how to achieve stakeholder buy-in to enable implementation of sustainable social, environmental and financial business practices.

The participants will gain a systematic understanding of sustainability principles and sustainability literacy related to the UN SDGs, planetary boundaries, doughnut economics, just transition, and circular economy. The learners will also develop a critical awareness of the social and environmental challenges facing organisations and will critically reflect on issues such as organisational purpose, responsive innovation, embedding circular economy principles, systems thinking and regulatory and reporting frameworks. Emphasis is also placed on developing communication skills and leadership skills so the business case for sustainability coupled with the most suitable strategies can be communicated effectively to create stakeholder buy-in and instigate action.

Delivery includes interactive lectures and problem-solving workshops from a unique mix of both TU Dublin academic staff and key industry practitioners. A diverse range of engaging learning & assessment strategies will be employed such as self-reflection on sustainability and self-leadership issues, creation of digital artefacts such as short videos and e-portfolios, and engaging with latest frameworks and best practice in sustainability and business to link them with own practice. The final consultancy project provides the learners with a unique opportunity to engage in an action-based project on a sustainability challenge in their own or client organisation. The programme is delivered in a blended format with 1 evening online and 1 evening in person in Semester 1.
