About this Course

This Programme will enable students to confidently manage internet systems in areas of technology, architecture, protocols and contemporary applications. It is a multipurpose award. A student would register for this award in order to:
a) Work in the management of web and internet systems within the Financial/information technology sector.
b) Acquire the advanced knowledge and skills to move from a technical role to a managerial and strategic role.
c) Acquire the knowledge and skills to pursue further postgraduate studies in information technology and web management.
The Programme holds the internationally highly respected American, Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) accreditation, which is only held by two Irish Universities.

Entry Requirements

There are five entry routes to this Programme:
1) A level 8 or higher degree in a relevant discipline (Business, Engineering, Science or Information Technology)
2) Chartered membership of a professional body or institute (Institute of Engineers of Ireland, Institute of Chartered Accountants)
3) A level 7 qualification in a relevant discipline or non-chartered membership of a professional body, along with at least three years relevant
Managerial work experience.
4) A level 8 qualification in a non-relevant discipline along with at least three years Managerial work experience.
5) Evidence of substantial relevant Managerial work experience. Such applicants will have to submit a C.V. in support of their application and will have to attend for interview

Long Description

This Programme will enable students to confidently manage internet systems in areas of technology, architecture, protocols and contemporary applications. It is a multipurpose award. A student would register for this award in order to:

b) Acquire the advanced knowledge and skills to move from a technical role to a managerial and strategic role.
c) Acquire the knowledge and skills to pursue further postgraduate studies in information technology and web management.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to: Identify the architecture of internet systems. Evaluate the system environment with recommended hardware and software appropriate to the application.Design and manage Internet Systems based on the latest network technologies, infrastructure, and operating systems.Determine protection strategies and technologies in managing security issues. Design and manage the implementation of a web presence within regulatory boundaries.Evaluate web platforms and solution acquisition options.Develop an understanding of how Social Networks can be used for business. Assess the application of human-computer interface principles. Assess applications and solutions in E-Commerce systems. Assess the convergence of communication opportunities including social networks and disruptive technologies

Our flexible delivery mode means that if the student gets a job before completion of their studies, they will still be able to complete the program over a longer time frame. In addition, because the program is provided through distance learning online, it will be possible for students all over Ireland to take the programme. Students are fully supported with specialist course texts and tutorial support. Students can store their work on our E-portfolio platform which they carry with them after the programme has finished, showcasing their development. In addition, tutorials will be provided using a web-based tutorial system, in which students can participate from home or anywhere with a reasonable internet connection or catch up later if more convenient. All modules are assessed via continuous assessment, with no year-end exams. On successful completion of the course, students can apply to complete a dissertation to achieve an MSc qualification.
