About this Course

Who is this course aimed at?

Are you looking to return to the workforce by creating your own job or starting your own business online? If so, you not alone. New company registrations and new business start-ups are at their highest level since 2008. Even for people who are seeking employment opportunities, it is clear that working in a start-up environment is likely to be an option.

However, starting your own business or working in a new business requires a different skillset.
In general, no one has a defined role and everyone has to be able to pitch in. Nowadays, the internet and the digital environment are capable of supporting a new business in many different ways. But for many new business owners, they don’t have the skills to make the most of these digital opportunities.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have a pass in five subjects (ordinary level) in the Leaving Certificate, to include Mathematics and English or Irish, or an equivalent qualification. Leaving Certificate Mathematics at Foundation Level at grade B2 or higher is acceptable for this programme.
The minimum entry requirements for graduates of FETAC level 5 or 6 awards is any full award.
Mature applicants (i.e. those who are aged 23 years or more on January 1st in the year of entry) applying for the
first level of programmes are exempt from this requirement.
As per ITB's related policies and procedures are detailed in 3AD08 Admissions Policy.
Applicants who do not fulfill the Maths requirement will need to pass an ITB Maths exam.

Long Description

About this Course:
This programme has been designed to allow learners to acquire a focused range of skills which will enable them:
• to start their own online business;
• to return to the workforce by working for an existing firm in establishing themselves in the online trading environment; or
• to work effectively in a start-up online environment by equipping them with the digital skills and tools that will enable them to take a hands-on role both on- and off-line.

This program is designed to give you those skills – whether it is productivity skills from spreadsheets to apps to manage expenses; promotional tools such as designing and maintaining websites, creating and managing a social media presence, using online advertising; or developing and writing a credible business plan. This program will get you ready to either start your own digital business or to equip you with the digital business skills that Irish employers are looking for.

Course Modules :
Digital Enterprise
Digital Media For Marketing
Introduction to Digital Marketing
Fundamentals of Marketing
Exploring Web Design
Personal Development
Social Media for Business
Introduction to Writing for Marketing
Public Relations
Online Advertising
Marketing Information Management
Professional Practice Project
The projects will be undertaken independently by the students – this means that their client will brief them on what they require and they can work from home, here in the college or in the client’s premises as required.
These projects will allow the learner to use their new skills to design and implement an online business / sales & marketing plan. This might be to do with updating an existing ecommerce website or identifying and using different online retailers appropriate to their client’s organisation etc.
If the learner has a new business proposal, this may be considered for their project as well in that they could develop their business plan and/or develop their online business. This would have to be with the prior agreement of the lecturer to ensure it met the standards of a 15 ECTS credits module.
The college intends to connect clients and learners, however, it may be that the learner is working and may be able to use a work-based assignment. Again, any of these arrangements would have to be assessed by the lecturer before being approved.
Note : This course is subject to validation.
