About this Course

The Higher Diploma in Science in Computing is an Honours Degree level graduate programme designed for graduates of non-computing disciplines. It equips successful participants with a range of core IT skills and opens career routes in the ICT sector. The Higher Diploma in Science in Computing has over 90% conversion rate from completing the programme into full time employment in the ICT Sector.

The Higher Diploma in Science in Computing carries a unique level of industry support from some of the leading software and IT companies in the world - Microsoft, IBM, SAP, Telecity, Ergo, Sage, Version1(up to 30 more). The programme consists of two semesters of intensive computing education allied to a 3 months internship in an IT company.

This programme has two streams, namely:
• Systems and IT Services
• Software Development for Games and Apps

Semester 1 modules are shared by both streams. Semester 2 modules differentiate the two streams and allow participants to specialise in a manner that develops their interests and career aspirations. A 3 month work placement concludes Semester 2 of both streams.

Graduates from the programme will be eligible for progression to an MSc programme in IT Management at IT Carlow.

With vital current skills in Software Development, Database, ICT infrastructure, Systems Analysis, Testing and User Experience allied to hands on use of Web, Mobile and Cloud frameworks this programme will give you real ICT knowledge and skills to add to your existing graduate qualification. Your previous experience and knowledge allied to current ICT knowledge provides a very attractive offering for potential employers.

Entry Requirements

Level 8 Honours Degree with a significant numerate element. RPL processes may be used to allow access for candidates who have a Level 8 qualification and may wish to use Institute prior learning processes to demonstrate numeracy/ problem solving experience. Suitability of individual applicants usually supported by interview and aptitude testing.
