About this Course

Note :
This CISCO CCNA Programme has two intakes which run on different days a week. Course timetable can be viewed below. Applicants are advised to apply for either Intake 1 or Intake 2. Please do not apply for both intakes.

CCNA (Cisco Certified Network Associate) Routing and Switching certification is the first step in helping you prepare for a career in networking. This in addition to Linux knowledge will help improve your skill sets, and provide you with ability to manage and optimise network systems.

Students will learn the technical skills and soft skills needed to succeed in entry-level networking professions such as a network installer, help desk technician, pre-sales support technician, or network technician.

This course enables you to complete 2 valuable industrial certification exams in addition to your academic studies.
CCNA Routing and Switching focuses on network infrastructure, mainly routing and switching, but it also includes wireless access, security, and connectivity to branch offices using WAN. This part of the course prepares candidates for the new CCNA Routing and Switching certification exam 200-125. This exam tests a candidate's knowledge and skills related to network fundamentals, LAN switching technologies, IPv4 and IPv6 routing technologies, WAN technologies, infrastructure services, infrastructure security, and infrastructure management.
Applicants will be registered on the CISCO NetAcad site and exam cost, books and lab resources will be covered.

The Systems Administration module focuses on the CompTIA Linux+ certification. CompTIA Linux+ covers common tasks in major distributions of Linux, including the Linux command line, basic maintenance, installing and configuring workstations, and networking.

The 3 month Work placement at the end of the course aims to provide learners with their first experience of a structured professional setting. ITB will provide CV and interview supports for all students and will endeavour to
find suitable work placements for all students. Students may organise their own placements but the employer must be approved by ITB. Companies that have taken students from this course in previous years include WiLine, Viatel, SAP, Citrix, eCom, Marine Institute, Alstom, Intel, AOL and Department of Education.

No formal qualification in computing is required for entry to the course but it is recommended that applicants would have completed the CompTIA A+ or Network+ course or equivalent.

Why Choose This Course

There are a large number of learners that would benefit from completing a NFQ level 6 in this area, particularly those with
trades/retail backgrounds that would like to make a career change. Industry has identified the Level 6 as often a minimum
entry for many IT positions and this course would help workers to start in Higher Education, as there are no pre-requisites
for the course. This course is suitable for people that are unemployed, returning to the workforce and those that need up
skilling.
Our courses are developed in consultation with the IT industry in the Dublin region through direct contact with employers
and such organisations as Regional Skills Forum, IDA, Enterprise Ireland and ICT Ireland Skillnets.
ITB is a Cisco Academy Training Centre and Academy Support Centre. It is currently supporting the Instructor training
and support requirements for 26 further and higher education institutions in Ireland. ITB is also a CompTIA academic
partner and as a result of these partnerships is well placed to deliver these industrially certified courses.
The ITB Cisco academy has a very good relationship with companies that are looking for Cisco graduates, and these
companies contact ITB directly when vacancies arise. Runbook Technologies, eCom Solutions, Viatel, Equinix, Wiline are
just some of the companies that have sourced graduates from the program into paid employment.
