About this Course

Enrol in Ireland's largest, most popular and award-winning online Six Sigma green belt programme. This certification is in great demand by employers across all sectors in either medical device manufacturing, pharmaceutical, healthcare or service sectors.
The Six Sigma Green Belt course provides participants with enhanced problem-solving skills, using the DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve and Control) model and it is now the foremost process improvement approach for organisations that wish to attain world class performance in quality and customer satisfaction. The course is suitable for all levels, from supervisor and technician through to engineering and management. The course content is aligned with both the ASQ and Quality America body of knowledge for the Six Sigma green belt.
This course will consist of weekly online lectures as well as extra learning resources that can be accessed online. All lectures are also recorded so you can view them at any time. During the course, you will have access to online discussion areas where you can ask questions and get support from your lecturer as you work through the materials. You will also be able to take regular quizzes to see how you are progressing. The course now includes instruction on industry leading Minitab software which allows you to analyse and interpret your data, create charts and graphs and utilise the Minitab software on your Six Sigma improvement projects.
There is a >90% graduation rate from this programme which has been offered to fee paying participants. These participants are largely in employment and funded by their employer to upgrade their skills in this area.

Objectives

The objective of this programme is to meet the skills shortages identified by the Expert Group on Future Skills needs (EGFSN) from Forfas whom identified Six Sigma skills as an area which was ‘Difficult to Fill Vacancies
‘in their most recent report.
They stated in their report: Production and process engineers with lean manufacturing, Six
Sigma/Six-Sigma Black-Belt, other Six Sigma specialist with business knowledge relevant for continuous improvement were difficult to employ.

Entry Requirements

There is no prerequisite to study this programme. It is recommended that applicants have a Leaving Certificate or equivalent due to the Statistics covered in the course syllabus.

For all IT Sligo Springboard programmes, the participants will be enrolled on a mandatory and accredited ‘Personal Effectiveness and Employability’ programme that will be delivered by distance learning using an enquiry based and interactive learning approach. These programmes are designed to improve the employability skills of the students with particular emphasis on CV and Interview preparation and on the job transferable skills to become an effective team member. These modules will also outline the skills needed for effective engagement in the workplace.
The ‘Personal Effectiveness and Employability’ programme has been assigned 10 credits and on completion of this module the learner will be able to develop an independent, self-managed, reflective approach to study and work. They will become familiar with workplace cultures and collaborate effectively in groups, teams and meetings.

IT Sligo have embedded this six sigma green belt award into four of our degree programmes based on student and
employer feedback.

IT Sligo Springboard participants can avail of the services of the Careers office and the IT Careers Portal. The Careers officer provides guidance to students regarding their programme of study and career options. A virtual and campus based career fair occurs annually and students have access to employers and their current requirements. Students can attend live events where they can visit live interactive sessions with employers.
Students also have access to a postgraduate fair, which also occurs annually on campus. As part of this event, students will have an opportunity to attend CV Clinics and have their CV professionally checked by HR professionals. They can also attend seminars and lectures relating to career development, identifying target employers, how to connect with employers, collaborate effectively in groups and in identifying and applying on the job soft skills.
IT Sligo delivers a 'Personal effectiveness and employability' programme which is designed to enhance participants job readiness training. This is a 10 credit module and it has been designed to enhance the skills needed for effective engagement in the work place.
