About this Course

Are you thinking of starting an online business? Or do you want to up skill in the area of digital sales and marketing?
If so, this course is for you!

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have a pass in five subjects (ordinary level) in the Leaving Certificate, to include Mathematics and
English or Irish, or an equivalent qualification. Leaving Certificate Mathematics at Foundation Level at grade H3 or higher
is acceptable for this programme. Graduates of FETAC level 5 or 6 awards are also eligible. Mature applicants (i.e. those
who are aged 23 years or more on January 1st in the year of entry) applying for the first level of programmes are also
eligible to apply.

Long Description

Modules include
- Digital Enterprise – learn about the different types of online businesses
- Digital Media For Marketing – learn how to take great photos, create videos and edit them for your different social media channels
- Online Advertising – how to design great ads and campaigns to promote your online business
- Social Media for Business – what is involved in the different social media channels and how to use them to promote your business
- Fundamentals of Marketing 1 – understanding your consumer
- Exploring Web Design – building a basic website
- Introduction to Writing for Marketing – what makes good content for blogs, product descriptions etc
- Public Relations – how to manage your public persona across all the digital channels
- Start Your Own Business – learning about putting together a professional business plan
- Introduction to Digital Marketing
- Personal Development
- Marketing Information Management

All of these modules are delivered by a lecturer either face-to-face or online, during timetabled classes.

Work Based Project :
Rather than undertaking a work placement, you will carrying out a Work Based Project. The Work Based Project is an e-commerce business plan and can be
- A. For an e-commerce business idea that the you have developed during the year
- B. For your existing employer, to help them expand into online trading / e-commerce
- C. For a client organisation who want help developing an e-commerce business plan (we will help you to find a client organisation).

This project is worth 20 credits and is completed during May and June (6 weeks). This is an individual project so there is no regular class time. However, there is a workshop at the start, as well as meetings with the supervisor during the 6 weeks. There is a final presentation and e-commerce business plan to be submitted at the end.

Graduates of this programme have used what they have learnt to start their own e-commerce businesses or to help them find new jobs in the digital sector or to gain a new opportunity with their existing employer. You will have experienced the full range of digital marketing tools and technologies, as well as having an understanding of how online businesses operate and basic marketing fundamentals.

Timetable Info

This course is delivered in a blended format.
• Monday 4-8pm Online Lectures, (It is anticipated that students will need to attend on campus for the first week of each semester)
•Wednesday 6-10pm on campus lectures and 6 Fridays OR 6 Saturdays (full days) per semester.
*Weekly Self-study is required on this course

This course will primarily be delivered online supported by lectures and workshops delivered face to face.
All the online material will be recorded live to enable students to access the material any time.
Please note, that for the first week of each semester students are expected to attend the campus for all classes for induction and to meet the academic team. There will also be some independent study to be carried out by attendees of the course.
