About this Course

Entrepreneurship is a significant driver of economic growth and job creation. It facilitates the creation of new companies, new markets and nurtures new skills and capabilities. Innovation and entrepreneurship combined give rise to new ideas, products, processes and services. Before rebranding as Tangent the Innovation Academy surveyed employers and held focus groups with students (and entrepreneurs) to ascertain that such a programme is both relevant to funding bodies, employers and accessible to prospective students. It has also reviewed government policy documents to ensure that the offering is aligned to national priorities.

This certificate programme seeks to produce graduates that possess these skills and will contribute to Ireland becoming a global innovation leader. It links higher education and innovation capacity to the needs of the public and private sectors, providing a platform for missions across disciplines and across multiple fields and innovation activities. It is helping Ireland become a country recognised for innovation, competitive advantage and continuing academic excellence fostering a culture of creativity and entrepreneurship where Irish graduates can be job shapers and not just job seekers. To achieve this, the programme empowers students to translate creative and innovative ideas into products, services and policies for commercial, social and cultural benefit. Trinity strives to pursue excellence in the education of future innovation leaders, now offering a cohesive integrated learning journey for the aspiring entrepreneur from early stage concept formation to incubator, accelerator and external (or creative) funding supports. On this programme, enterprising students will learn the fundamentals of creative and design thinking, idea development, opportunity generation/recognition and venture planning tools/concepts to bring innovative products and services to market. Students will learn to be innovative and entrepreneurial in their approach to problem solving and to addressing national and international societal issues. With over six years’ experience delivering postgraduate programmes in the area of innovation and entrepreneurship encompassing cohorts at undergraduate, postgraduate, academic and executive level, Trinity Innovation Academy are well positioned to develop a talent pipeline of future entrepreneurs and innovation leaders.

Upon completion of this programme, graduates will:
- Develop their creative potential, critical and lateral thinking skills
- Develop their ability to work effectively in an inter-disciplinary team and to understand team roles • Learn to communicate with and to interact with industry collaborators
- Actively experience and engage in the innovation process
- Develop their understanding of innovation across a range of discipline areas
- Understand the societal and economic value associated with innovation • Appreciate the process involved in bringing an idea through to application/implementation As well as fostering core competencies in leadership, communication and teamwork, this programme will provide graduates with structured progression routes to careers in entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship should they wish to pursue this direction.
