About this Course

The Higher Diploma in Science in Software Development is an Honours Degree level graduate conversion programme which gives graduates from non-computing backgrounds the skills and knowledge to start a career in the IT industry. It is available as a one year fill-time or two year part-time programme for those in work wishing to commence a career in the ICT sector. Lecturing is fully online. Major employers in each region are looking to the programme to fill some of their technologically qualified graduate needs. This is evidenced in the numbers of employers returning to support the programme each year.The Higher Diploma in Science in Software Development carries a unique level of industry support from some of the leading software and IT companies in the world - Microsoft, IBM, SAP, Telecity, Ergo, Sage, Version1. The programme consists of one/ two years of computing education allied to a six months internship in an IT Company.

This is the 12 month version of the course which unemployed applicants must do to qualify for Back To Education Allowance. Employed applicants should apply for the 18/24 month version.

Entry Requirements

A Level 8 qualification under the National Framework of Qualifications or equivalent (see www.qqi.ie) in any discipline. Applicants will be ranked in terms of academic merit the last working day of each month and offers of places made to those with minimum academic requirements in order of academic merit. If all available places are not filled by applicants holding a Level 8 qualification RPL applications will be considered from those holding a Level 7 degree plus 3 years working experience.

Applications are processed in the sequence in which they are received and offers made in the sequence in which all of the required documents have been uploaded confirming that applicant has met the entry requirements. The application deadline is moved only when there are remaining places not yet filled, so please do not delay in applying if you wish to do the course.
