About this Course

The medical device industry is undergoing major changes globally as many new products enter the global pipeline. The move is for more high cost products to be manufactured in Ireland and their is also a move to more combined products where medical devices are now being classified not just as medical devices but also as medicines. This course aims to provide the student the knowledge and practical applications of the manufacturing elements of medical devices with the regulatory aspects.

Entry Requirements

If the applicant is under the age of 23, requirement for 5 grade D's in the LC or a full FETAC level 5 major award or equivalent If the applicant is over the age of 23 (i.e. mature), they are eligible to apply for Year 1 entry to degree programmes or Year 1 entry to Level 6 Higher Certificate / Special Purpose / Certificate / Minor Awards. All applicants must have competence in spoken and written English. Eligible candidates may be interviewed.

The following are eligible to apply for courses in 2020/21 academic year (subject to the applicant meeting all requirements, e.g. academic requirements):
• Returners (Formerly known as Homemakers) May apply to all courses if they meet the nationality/visa requirement and residency criteria.
• People in employment May apply to all courses if they meet the nationality/visa requirement and residency criteria.
• Please note that a 10% course fee contribution for Level 7, 8, and 9 courses is applicable for employed participants. This is payable directly to the provider.
• The unemployed or formerly self-employed all courses are open to these category of applicants, with the exception of the two year part-time ICT conversion courses which are not open to those in receipt of a Jobseekers-related payment.

RPL Information

Recognition of Prior Learning at TU Dublin Tallaght. The RPL process will enable Springboard participants to build on their existing skills and competence. The University is aware that many Springboard applicants will have a range of knowledge skills and competence that they have developed through their life and work experience and that are not necessarily accredited. TU Dublin Tallaght has an RPL process in place that recognises both the accredited and experiential learning of an individual. TU Dublin Tallaght will work with Springboard participants to identify their existing skills and competence and to award them credit for their learning however it has been acquired. This will ensure that Springboard participants will have the opportunity to gain credit for both their accredited ad experiential learning and can tailor their programme to complement existing skills and knowledge and to develop new skills to support future years.
