About this Course

Delivered by the School of Mechanical and Design Engineering in conjunction with the School of Biological Sciences in its unique set of Automation, Design and Manufacturing Laboratories and Workshops the Medical Device Innovation programme was designed in conjunction with industry representatives from the medical device sector to address a continuing increasing demand for engineers, scientists and technologists. The course focuses on the design, manufacture, production, process and quality needs of the medical device sector. Through this consultation process a suite of industry desirable modules was developed. Students undertake learning in:
-Medical Device Design & Analysis
-Anatomy and Physiology
-CAD & Analysis
-Validation & Regulatory Affairs
-Lean/ Six Sigma
-Manufacturing
-Biomaterials
-Project Management & Innovation.

Long Description

Delivered by the School of Mechanical and Design Engineering in conjunction with the School of Biological Sciences in its unique set of Automation, Design and Manufacturing Laboratories and Workshops the Medical Device Innovation programme was designed in conjunction with industry representatives from the medical device sector to address a continuing increasing demand for engineers, scientists and technologists. The course focuses on the design, manufacture, production, process and quality needs of the medical device sector. Through this consultation process a suite of industry desirable modules was developed. Students undertake learning in: Medical Device Design & Analysis, Anatomy and Physiology, CAD & Analysis, Validation & Regulatory Affairs,,Lean/ Six Sigma, Manufacturing of Medical Devices, Biomaterials, Project Management & Innovation.
The course will provide students with industry relevant skills and previous graduates of the full degree programme have been successful in securing employment. Group based activities, applied learning and industry involvement are an integral part of the programme. The students also benefit from numerous guest seminars where industry representatives, clinicians and entrepreneurs discuss current & future trends. The course delivery has been designed for part-time & mature students returning to education. Recognition of prior learning (RPL), flexible and part-time delivery, availability of course material online, additional tutorials. Job readiness components such as technical writing skills, CV preparation and interview skills are all integral components. This programme was designed to make an immediate impact on the successful participants for employment opportunities in Ireland.
