About this Course

This is a conversion course to allow those from a range of construction backgrounds to focus their skills and knowledge into much needed expertise in Construction Contracts Management. The construction industry has in recent years embraced the new forms of government contract (GCCC), RIAI, Design /Build contracts and on-line procurement methods, creating a need for expertise in the administration and management of contracts. Professionals and associate professionals in the construction industry are offered the opportunity to update and expand their knowledge in the area of construction contracts management by covering a dynamic mix of modules:

Work Placement

Assessment will be a mix of problem based learning and written examinations (3). The course also includes a 200-hour minimum work placement which learners will source throughout Ireland. Learners will attend classes up to two and a half days per week between 9.30am and 5.30pm over two 13-week semesters (September – January and January – May).

An induction programme will be offered as required at the commencement of the course to learners to facilitate a successful return to education. Safe Pass training will be offered to learners.

This course aims to give construction professionals the competencies to administer and manage the relevant contracts used in the industry today, and is complemented by modules which deal specifically with financial management within the construction industry and relevant construction law issues. Pre and post contract management skills will be developed in a financial, legal and ethical context.

Entry Requirements

A construction related Honours degree (Level 8) or equivalent. Level 7 degree graduates with work experience in the construction industry are also eligible to apply. LYIT has a comprehensive Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy, recognising life and work experience.

Timetable Info

The course will be delivered by a combination of online and class-room based teaching. It is expected that two days per week will be delivered on campus.

Delivery Notes

Students should have access to a home computer (or laptop) and broadband. We recommend that students have a headset with mic and use Chrome browser for online classes. Online interaction will be via Blackboard VLE (Virtual Learning Environment)
