About this Course

The Graduate Diploma in Web Technologies is an in-depth skills conversion programme aimed at those who wish to pursue a career in information technology, but whose primary qualification lies in an area outside IT or those who have no qualifications but have gained experience in IT.

Entry Requirements

Entry is available to graduates with a NFQ Level 8 qualification or equivalent classification in a non IT related discipline, including languages. Applicants without a formal degree, but with 5 or more years professional experience in IT are also invited to apply. This entry is subject to an interview if deemed necessary by the Chair of Programme or Head(s) of School.

Students who meet the minimum entry requirements are not guaranteed a place on the programme and DCU reserves the right to interview candidates to confirm their suitability for the programme. Non-Native English speakers must submit evidence of competency in the English language as per DCU entry requirements.

Long Description

The Graduate Diploma in Web Technologies is an in-depth skills conversion programme aimed at those who wish to pursue a career in information technology, but whose primary qualification lies in an area outside IT or those who have no qualifications but have gained experience in IT.
The programme provides students with an excellent grounding in IT and its related disciplines. The Graduate Diploma is offered on a full-time basis and is suitable for recent graduates wishing to broaden their skills portfolio and who are seeking to gain a recognised qualification in the IT area. As well as providing excellent employment prospects, the course offers strong practical focus aimed at developing graduates with the personal and professional skills most sought after in the Information Economy. The subjects on this programme are:

Introduction to Programming: Basic Foundation in object oriented programming and Java Basics
Web Development 1: Universal design practices for websites
Collaboration and Innovation: Project management, communication, and collaborative tools to support teams
Introduction to Databases: Database systems and design, Entity Relationship data modelling, the relational model of data & SQL
Data Governance and Standards: How to manage data in the GDPR era
Web Development 2: Advanced web design
Web Technologies Project: Practical project solving a real world problem taking cognisance of compliance issues.
