Long Description

The Professional Diploma in UX Design, delivered in partnership between UCD Professional Academy and UX Design Institute, has been developed to help students build a successful career in UX.

The Professional Diploma in UX Design is a highly practical, hands-on course focused on developing job-ready skills and know-how. Students will learn to think like UX designers, and adopt the mindset that makes them so valuable in the tech industry. Students will build their confidence from a true, deep understanding of the domain. They will work on a series of projects aimed at building experience and developing a portfolio of work to showcase to potential employers.

During the course, which entails 6 months of part-time online learning, the UCD Professional Academy will host three live digital sessions with the students' dedicated UX mentor, a highly experienced UX professional. The digital classroom sessions will focus specifically on the practical elements of the course: the eight projects that each student must submit as part of their assessment. This will allow students to gain hands-on, guided experience with a number of critical UX techniques, including running a usability test, facilitating an affinity mapping workshop, and building a portfolio (among others).

In the world of UX your portfolio is your CV and so the focus will be on ensuring students perfect this to give you the very best chance of progressing into a role in UX.

Why Choose This Course

According to LinkedIn, UX Design is one of the top five hard skills that employers are looking for and an average UX Designer salary in Ireland stands at €40,000. As well as developing your skills and knowledge, this course will build your confidence from a true, deep understanding of the profession.

Completing this course will allow you to create the all-important portfolio that will show employers you have the hands-on experience to deliver successful UX projects. In the world of UX, your portfolio is your CV, so the focus will be on ensuring you perfect this and therefore have the best chance of progressing into a UX role. During the course, you’ll not only prepare 8 case study projects for your portfolio but also learn how to create an effective professional portfolio.

The mentoring component of the course will include focused training on skills related to career-building within the UX industry. In addition, all students have access to a one-to-one work placement service (www.fit.ie) which will provide focused guidance throughout the course and facilitate a work placement with an indigenous or multinational organisation from the FIT board.

Career Opportunities

UX Designers are in high demand. LinkedIn lists UX design as one of the top five hard skills that employers are looking for. However, landing a UX Designer job can prove tricky without a track record. That’s why this course includes a focus on building a professional portfolio with projects developed during the course, as well as career insights and advice from live mentor sessions. Our partnership with Fastrack to Information Technology (FIT) will facilitate a work placement if needed, ensuring you are job-ready and have every chance of progressing into a UX role.
