About this Course

150,000 jobs have been predicted to be potentially created in the digital economy by 2020. It is expected to be worth 21.1 billion by 2020 accounting for 10% of GDP. The There has been tremendous change taking place in businesses in particular in their e-commerce environment and in their interaction with social media. In order to address and respond to this level of change the Future Skills Requirements Reports across a range of sectors have identified that one of the key future skills needs by function within companies was to have a marketing department with e-commerce and social media skills.

This programme is designed to address such a skills gap by providing participants with an applied knowledge of digital marketing. This programme is targeted towards the learner who wishes to specialise in the field of digital marketing with a view to entering industry, or those who are working in an industry that requires the input of digital marketing techniques to enhance or in some cases drive the overall marketing function and strategy. The massive growth of social media and mobile marketing in recent years, means that marketers need a strong skill set and knowledge base that is digital. Therefore, they will need both the visibility and traceability that digital marketing affords. Given how fast the digital marketing arena moves in terms of technologies and practice all modules are written with flexibility in mind. Students are facilitated in exploring new ideas and technologies where applicable. In this way, the programme remains up-to-date with industry trends and best practice. Students will be exposed to both the classroom environment to understand and learn the theoretical . This mode will suit returners as will run during the morning twice a week.

Entry Requirements

Holders of a minimum level 6 award on the NFQ OR Applications without this will be considered on the basis of approved prior experience and learning (APEL).

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).
Learners may also access this programme on the basis of recognition of prior learning or by assessment of prior experiential learning/informal learning. Such applicants are considered on a case-by-case basis. The process is implemented within the relevant school, by the relevant Head of School/Department or nominee, and is overseen by the Registrar. For this particular programme applicants will be considered on a case by case basis based upon their educational record, work experience and a capacity to successfully participate in the programme.

Long Description

On completion of the programme the learner will be equipped with the skills needed to work in a digital marketing environment either stand alone as part of a business function. This programme accommodates a wide audience of learners whose specific interests in digital marketing may be either technically focused or business focused. The Certificate in Digital Marketing will enable graduates with the following outcomes:

• Identify the necessary technical and practical knowledge for the effective implementation of digital marketing.
• Acquire the ability to successfully create and manage digital marketing campaigns and e-commerce processes.
• Obtain insights into the way in which organisations create and execute strategic digital marketing decisions.
• Evaluate consumer behaviour in a digital context.
• Identify novel and innovative approaches to digital marketing.
• Function independently and think creatively to solve problems in a business environment.
• Demonstrate knowledge of key digital marketing concepts and the impact of the technology on a business or consumer sector.

This programme is a 1 year programme with four taught modules each of 10 ECTS which combined lead to a Certificate in Digital Marketing, Level 7 Special Purpose Award. Upon completion of the programme, participants will have specialised digital marketing skills and competencies that will enable them to pursue employment positions in many fields.

DBS aims to give you the best possible campus and blended learning experience. All classes for 2020/21 will be taught on a hybrid learning basis. This means you will be on campus for some classes and other classes will be online. Your timetable will be available once you register for the programme and will advise you of which classes are on campus and which classes will be taken online.

RPL Information

Applicants who do not have a Level 6 qualification may also be considered through the college’s normal RPL procedures. Relevant professional experience may be taken into account and individuals will be assessed on a case-by-case basis through DBS RPL procedures.

Please note it is extremely important that you use only one email address when you register with Springboard. This email address which you use to log into springboard must match the email address that you put on your Springboard application form. If it is different it will cause confusion through the application process and you may end up missing any email communication from Springboard.

All documentation in relation to your application should be emailed to:

Documents required are as follows:
1. Transcripts of Results for all relevant qualifications listed in your application. Please also ensure you send us a copy of
any certification you would have received from these qualifications. A Diploma Supplement will also suffice and it must
contact a breakdown of all subjects taken for the duration of the course.
2. For applicants who do not meet the entry requirements or have a non-cognate qualification, we would require an up-to-
date CV which includes all aspects of your career to date, employed, unemployed or returner etc.
3. A copy of your current passport or driver’s licence.
4. Non-EU applicants will be required to provide a copy of their GNIB card showing a Stamp 4 or Stamp 4 EU FAM. You
will need to provide us with evidence of your first Stamp 4 Visa and your current Stamp 4.
5. For applicants whose first language is not English and who have not previously undertaken a degree taught through
English, evidence must be provided of proficiency in English language equivalent to B2+ or above on the Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). This must be evidenced through a recognised English
Language test such as IELTS, Cambridge Certificate, PTE or DBS English Assessment. Test certificates should be
dated within the last two years to be considered valid.
6. Verification of Status Required:

• In Employment - please provide a recently dated letter from your current employer on headed paper, signed and dated.
• Returner - Please provide a letter signed by the Commissioner for Oaths confirming your current status. A form to

• Department of Social Protection - Please provide a recently dated letter confirming that you are on the live register
detailing which payment you are in receipt of or a letter confirming that you are signing for social insurance contribution

• Previously Self Employed - A letter from your accountant or revenue confirming that your business is no longer trading.

7. For applicants who do not meet the entry requirements of a particular programme but may possess relevant professional
work experience, may also be considered through the college’s normal RPL procedures. Individuals will be assessed on
a case-by-case basis through DBS RPL procedures. A personal statement will need to be completed and submitted
(approx. 300 words) detailing what has motivated you to apply for this particular programme and how you believe it will
fit into your career objectives.

Please note an interview may be required to assess your suitability for the course.
