About this Course

The Bachelor of Engineering in Industrial Engineering is a one-year part-time programme that provides participants with key competencies in the area of industrial engineering and related subjects. Industrial engineers make decisions to best leverage resources (human, material, equipment and energy) to achieve organisational aims and objectives. To accomplish this, especially where resources are scarce and overheads are high, the industrial engineer utilises critical skills to systematically collect, analyse and present factual information to support management decision making. This programme supports learners to learn these skills.
There is a need for skilled industrial engineers across all industries in manufacturing (traditional and modern), banking, transportation, consultancy, distribution services, the health sector, military and other areas of government.
Programme participants will learn how to improve productivity, efficiency, and profitability, as well as providing more choice to customers by reducing response times and improving quality. Developing these key competencies is vital to a participants’ success in the effective management of an organisation. The practical nature of the coursework (for example, where learners are required to compete a practical project based on a work situation) lends itself to supporting the learner to achieve these competencies, and this will benefit an organisation’s overall efficiency.

Entry Requirements

Entry to this programme is facilitated for:
Candidates are required to have previously met the prescribed learning outcomes for engineering awards at level 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications.
Holders of Higher Certificate awards in engineering or related cognate disciplines who would be in a position to benefit from and succeed in the programme
Holders of the IIE Diploma qualification in Industrial Engineering with direct experience of industrial engineering.
Mature applicants with qualifications and experience deemed equivalent by the College’s QQI approved RPL and RPEL policies.
Candidates who do not have prior experience in work measurement and methods engineering (i.e. those who have not previously met those related module learning outcomes) will be required to undertake the elective bridging module. This elective module will be made available in advance of, or in parallel with, the other BEng programme modules.

Academic Progression
Graduates of the B.Eng. in Industrial Engineering may be considered eligible to join related Level 8 programmes depending on their particular combination of qualifications, experience and suitability.
