About this Course

This 10 week, online programme will provide learners with a solid grounding in Mechanical and Electrical Building Information Modelling (BIM) using Autodesk's Revit MEP.

Applicants MUST have a Revit Architecture qualification or to have completed Revit Architecture training.
Proof of Revit will be requested. eg Sample Revit drawing

Objectives

To provide the learner with the required knowledge to use Autodesk's Revit MEP proficiently.

Entry Requirements

Minimum entry requirements are Grade OD3 or higher in five subjects in the Leaving Certificate or similar approved. Applicants are also expected to have a basic knowledge of computers and computer applications.

Applicants must have a Revit Architecture qualification, or to have completed Revit Architecture training. Proof of Revit will be requested. eg Sample Revit drawing

Knowledge of building design and construction is also desirable

ENGLISH LANGUAGE: Applicants who do not have English as their first language must ensure they satisfy English Language requirements. For entry to undergraduate courses, a minimum score of 5.5 in an IELTS exam is required. For postgraduate courses, a minimum of 6.0 is required. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure their English proficiency meets these requirements.

Long Description

This 10 week, fully online programme will encompass the basics of Mechanical and Electrical Building systems as well as other BIM functionality such as tables and building quantities.

This course will benefit existing Revit Architecture users, or users of other BIM systems looking to expand their knowledge.

The course involves an overview of Revit MEP and Building Information Modelling (BIM); MEP Views, View Templating, Graphic Overrides; Revit plumbing systems, duct systems, cable tray systems; Electrical Systems in Revit, including switching systems, lighting systems and power systems. Mechanical and Electrical scheduling systems and material take-offs.

As a student of LIT, you will have access to the Academic version of Revit 2020. Please note that this academic version is not to be used for any commercial activities. Any files opened using the academic version will be digitally stamped by the software. You will require a computer (desktop or laptop) to undertake the course, which must have audio functionality. What will the time commitment be?
Each 5 credits will normally equate to approximately 100 Total Learning Hours. Total Learning Hours includes the time you spend in class (lectures, tutorials, practical elements) and the time you spend completing work outside of college. The balance between these two varies by discipline, and by level of study. You should bear in mind that the workload will increase at particular times e.g. when assignments are due.

Delivery Location

The Revit MEP online 10 week course is delivered through your web browser. It will involve logging into our lecture delivery platform and also the use of our virtual learning environment, Moodle. These platforms are designed to be easy to use, and training videos will be provided. Lectures will be delivered online; the platform is very similar to Skype, with some additional functionality such as online 'chat'. Moodle will contain course materials, recordings of the lectures & demonstrations, as well as being the platform to submit your assignments for the course.

RETURNERS: If you are a returner who has been on home or other caring duties for 9 of the last 12 months OR you are economically dependent on a partner or spouse and have been unemployed for 9 of the last 12 months you must supply a notarized affidavit confirming this. FORMERLY SELF-EMPLOYED:Provide a letter/statement from Revenue stating that the applicant is no longer trading or a similar letter from the applicants (former) accountant should be sufficient.

ASSESSMENTS/EXAMS: No Examinations. Three continuous assessment exercises will be set during the programme.
