Building on from the ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business or any equivalent qualification, the Professional Diploma is positioned at Level 7 equivalent of the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ). The Diploma is awarded by ACCA Ireland and Professional Accountancy Training (PAT). It builds on existing foundation knowledge and understanding it also develops strong broad financial practical skills required by financial personnel in intermediate employment positions.
The Diploma in Professional Accounting covers the following areas:
A.CORPORATE AND BUSINESS LAW:
AIM: To develop knowledge and skills in the understanding of the general legal framework, and of specific legal areas relating to business, recognising the need to seek further specialist legal advice where necessary.
Syllabus include:
1. Essential elements of the legal system:
2. The law of obligations;
3. Employment law;
4. The formation and constitution of business organisations;
5. Capital and the financing of companies;
6. Management, administration and regulation of companies;
7. Insolvency law;
8. Corporate fraudulent and criminal behaviour.
B. PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT:
AIM: To develop knowledge and skills in the application of management accounting techniques to quantitative and qualitative information for planning, decision making, performance evaluation, and control.
Performance Management module includes the following:
1. Specialist cost and management accounting techniques;
2. Decision-making techniques;
3. Budgeting and control;
4. Performance measurement and control.
C. TAXATION:
AIM: To develop knowledge and skills relating to the Irish tax system as applicable to individuals, single companies and groups of companies. Taxation module includes the following:
1. The Irish tax system and its administration; 2. Income tax liabilities;
3. Corporation tax liabilities;
4. Chargeable Gains
5. Local Property Tax (LPT)
6. Social Insurance and Health Contributions
7. Value added tax.
Learners can further their career by progressing to the Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business which is a Level 8 NFQ award
Any student wishing to study the Diploma in Professional Accounting will have successfully completed the ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business or an equivalent programme at Level 6 as specified in the ACCA admissions regulations.
