About this Course

This SPA in Supply Chain Management has been developed to address the growing need for upskilling the Irish workforce to support economic growth and development. With the ongoing uncertainty around the impact of Brexit, customs regulations, supply chain disruption and ever-increasing competitiveness in global trade, this qualification has now become more pertinent than ever and has received overwhelming support from industry.

MTU has a strong relationship with regional Pharmaceutical clusters and uses feedback of skill requirements and graduate profiles to develop academically relevant courses. Thus providing a workforce with relevant critical skills, crucial to the current upkeep and expansion of this fast-developing pharmaceutical cluster.

This course attracts learners already possessing sufficient experience in the field of logistics, supply chain management, business or engineering discipline, who are endeavouring to specialise or tailor their skillset. Learners who have successfully graduated from an appropriate level 7 qualification who are looking to continue their professional development will be considered.

Each module aims to broaden and deepen the critical knowledge of the academic theories pertinent to an industry with highly regulated and automated manufacturing and distribution environments such as GMP, QA, QC, Lean Manufacturing, Operations Management and Lean Supply Chains.

Learners are expected to think critically around problems, seek solutions and communicate in an industry-specific way. This module aims to be flexible in its delivery by utilising online delivery methods, supplemented with class tutorials.
In this course, learners will develop critical soft skills that a future manager in the sector would require.
• Effective Interpersonal Communication
• Teamwork
• Analytical Thinking
• Creative Problem Solving
• Negotiation Management
• Business Acumen.

On completion of this one-year qualification learners will be awarded 20 Credits towards an NQF Level 8 degree, Honours Bachelor of Science in Operations and Supply Chain Management.

Entry Requirements

Applicants must have achieved a minimum of a Level 7 degree or equivalent. (Examples of equivalence: a degree holder in business, finance, or engineering disciplines with substantial experience in logistics/supply chain management in the Biopharmaceutical and Pharmaceutical sector).

Suitably qualified applicants who have been out of the work environment for a number of years due to childcare or other caring obligations and have a previous history of employment but may require upskilling, reskilling or cross-skilling to transition back to the workforce are most welcome Applicants will also be considered under MTU's well-established RPL process.
