This award has been developed in partnership with industries such as Hewlett Packard Enterprises (HPE) Cyber Defense Center and Portwest Ltd. The modules, content and delivery have been created collaboratively to ensure that the required skillset is available to all organisations (cyber specific or not), to implement secure network infrastructure. This 30 credit Certificate aims to upskill IT practitioners in current tools and techniques to provide a secure network environment for an organization. It involves configuring network equipment and software in the demilitarized zone (DMZ) of an organization to protect against malicious external and internal threats. The objective is to provide a pathway for professionals to upskill to ensure secure IT network infrastructure for organisations. IT and data security is realised through robust security measures at the network and operating system level. Protection of an organisation’s data is a concern for administration and technical staff. As well as the theoretical component of malicious compromises and vulnerable attack vectors, successful applicants will work on practical solutions to ensure a secure IT infrastructure.
Course is free for unemployed and 300 Euros for employed applicants.
Modules covered are
Local Area Network (LAN) Routing and Switching 5 Credits
LAN Cybersecurity 10 Credits
Network Operating Systems (NOS) Security 10 Credits
Next Step – Transitioning to Work 5 Credits
The minimum entry requirement is a NFQ Level 6 major award or equivalent in a cognate IT discipline.
Eligible applications will be ranked on the basis of academic merit. Priority will be given to unemployed applicants who meet the entry requirement. Recognised Prior Learning, for those not meeting the entry requirements, may be offered in September 2021 to those holding a Leaving Certificate plus 3 years work experience if places have not been filled.
Closely aligned to this is a proposed 30 credit Level 7 award in Data Cybersecurity also designed in partnership with industry. Graduates completing both awards (Network Cybersecurity and Data Cybersecurit) will have sufficient credits to attain a major L7 award, BSc in Network Cybersecurity.
Online Delivery - An online virtual lab environment is provided, using Cybrary Professional Development Platform. (https://www.cybrary.it/) This allows the students to follow dedicated paths associated with modules and content. The virtual labs and courses provide cyber analytical tools, frameworks, models, machine learning and investigative platforms.
