About this Course

This SPA is a joint collaboration with UCC, Regional Skills and industrial partners (Biopharma, Pharma and MedTech manufacturers) in response to critical skills identified in validation in the South West Region. The primary aim is to guarantee a pipeline supply of qualified individuals with consistent delivery across South Western universities and consistent learnings aligned with industrial needs on validation.

Entry Requirements

Minimum level 6 qualification (120 credits) or equivalent in an engineering or science disciple. Applicants may be eligible through the institutes well-established RPL process.

Long Description

This SPA is a joint collaboration with UCC, Regional Skills and industrial partners (Biopharma, Pharma and MedTech manufacturers) in response to critical skills identified in validation in the South West Region. The primary aim is to guarantee a pipeline supply of qualified individuals with consistent delivery across South Western universities and consistent learnings aligned with industrial needs on validation.

This successful partnership involves a standard delivery of the online material content, shared industrial-led workshops and shared student intake (20 students each allocated to MTU and UCC). This harmonized approach gives the assurance of a larger network of attractive graduates, as requested from industry. For the purpose of this funding scheme, separate proposal applications are being submitted for MTU Cork and UCC for ease of administration.

This SPA is an accredited level 7 qualification (Pass (>40%) or Fail award) in Validation Science (2 modules) delivered part-time by evening over one academic year (26 weeks), suitable for all applicant categories (1-5) seeking to up-skill/cross-skill in order to secure employment for purposes of joining, re-entering or for career progression in the Biopharma, Pharma and MedTech sectors. The course is designed for maximum flexibility for students to complete the course PT and completely online (refer to module descriptions for information).

This industrially focused course provides students with an understanding of the importance of validating manufacturing processes (aseptic, plant, utilities) as well as the emerging trends/technologies in these expanding industries (e.g., vaccine development and automation). This SPA is committed to producing graduates with the knowledge and traverse skills to work successfully in the highly regulated manufacturing environments and more importantly, be able to adapt to the future demands of this sector. Roles such as production/manufacturing, quality assurance, regulatory affairs, commissioning, qualification and validation roles are targeted within the Biopharma / Pharma /Medtech industries.
