About this Course

The primary aim of the Diploma is to provide supervisors and supervisor aspirants with an opportunity to develop supervisory leadership competencies and transition from an operative level to that of a supervisory manager role. WIT has developed this program to meet the needs of organisations in the South East of Ireland who have communicated skill shortage with bio-pharma/medical devices, engineering and manufacturing sectors for Supervisory Leadership development.

Entry Requirements

At a minimum for students to be accepted on the Diploma in Supervisory, the current

Applicants should have a minimum Level 6 Higher Certificate qualification, in any discipline, along with a minimum of 1 years relevant industry experience.

Applicants who do not hold a Level 6 Higher Certificate qualification may be considered on the basis of a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) application to a Level 6 standard or equivalent provided they have a minimum of 1 years relevant industry experience.

Applicants whose first language is not English must submit evidence of competency in English as per the WIT English language requirements for a Level 7 Business programme.

Long Description

The Diploma in Supervisory Practice is a 30-week, 60 credit, Level 7 Award that provides participants from diverse backgrounds with the requisite business knowledge, skills, mind-set, & tools to become practicing supervisors. Industry research shows that the Southeast has an immediate shortage for operators, team leaders, and supervisors, particularly within the Bio-Pharma/Medtech, Engineering & Manufacturing sectors. Specifically the objectives of the programme are:

1.Managing Self: Develop the professional and personal development of the candidate
for the role of a Supervisory in terms of transition management, listening skills,
problem solving, decision making, time management, CV development, self-
development and self-awareness in terms of advanced personal and interpersonal
skills. The modules associated with achieving this objective are: Self-Management
and Supervisory Transition Management.

2.Managing Team: Develop key supervisory leadership skills related to the effective
management of the interpersonal relationships within a team, specifically team
development, motivation, conflict management, influencing, delegation, coaching,
performance appraisal. The modules associated with achieving this objective are:
Supervisory Leadership and Team Coaching.

3.Managing Operations: Students will apply operational excellence and lean practice
for process efficiency in a Supervisory position. The modules associated with
achieving this objective are: Lean Operations and Performance Management

To facilitate adult, working cohort of students, delivery will be fully on-line incorporating a combination of asynchronous and synchronous learning/teaching. The online delivery will utilize WITs virtual learning environment, namely Moodle. Tools for online delivery will include inter alia webinars in addition to document and link provision, and the use of online testing. Synchronous Classes will be 2 days per month (Block Release), a total of 6 days per semester and 4 hours on-line per month. This delivery mode was specifically designed to suit both the requirements of working individuals and that of the organisation releasing an individual to undertake an educational programme.
