About this Course

The Higher Diploma in Business Systems Analysis is an online, two-year, part-time course targeted at business or computing graduates who wish to enhance their existing knowledge and gain a further qualification to enable them to gain access to highly employable roles such as Business Systems Analysts, Data Scientists, Project Managers and Data Analysts.

A recent report ˜ICTSkills - SERSF Summary of Demand from Industry for Skills / Training - Dec 2020 https://www.regionalskills.ie/regions/southeast/news/tracking-sectoral-skills/engineering-skills-needs-detailed-dec-2020.pdf has recognised that there is an ongoing need for ICT staff as the digitisation of services and the automation of manufacturing continues. It also lists roles in demand within the region and the need to upskill staff in disciplines such as: Data Scientists, Enterprise Applications, Web Design and Project Managers. Participants of this course will be equipped to transition into these roles on completion of the course.


Entry Requirements

A Level 8 qualification in a discipline such as Business, Engineering, Science, Mathematics, Physics, and Healthcare.
Alternatively applicants who have gained a minimum of a Level 7 qualification in a course with a significant ICT component are eligible to apply using WIT’s Recognition of Prior Learning mechanism.

Some applicants who do not immediately meet these requirements may wish to consider using WIT’s Recognition of Prior Learning mechanism in order to make an application that can be considered for entry to this course. The Higher Diploma in Business Systems Analysis is an online, two-year, part-time course targeted at business or computing graduates who wish to enhance their existing knowledge and gain a further qualifications to enable them to gain access to highly employable roles such as Business Systems Analysts, Data Scientists, Project Managers and Data Analysts.

The Digital Transformation: Assessing the Impact of Digitalisation on Ireland's Workforce (2018) report highlights emerging skills needs in roles such as Data Scientists, Data Analysts and Data Management; section 7.3.4. http://www.skillsireland.ie/all-publications/2018/digital-transformation.pdf. Graduates of this course will be perfectly positioned to fill these roles.

The National Skills Bulletin (October 2020) https://www.solas.ie/f/70398/x/f152d63b02/national-skills-bulletin_2020.pdf also demonstrates a need for this course and it states that the Overall Outlook for ICT Occupations is very positive. The report concludes that ICT occupations are not thought to have been negatively impacted in terms of employment numbers as a result of COVID-19.

Database Design and Implementation: Designing and implementing database systems, including entity Relationship Modelling, SQL and NoSQL
HCI & Web Design: Understanding the principles of good design for web interfaces, Cognitive Science and HCI theories
Data Analytics: Fundamental concepts of data analytics to discover relevant information to support decision making
Enterprise Data Exchange and XML: XML standard syntax and related standards and how these can be used to build enterprise applications
Enterprise Applications: How they provide productivity and efficiency to an enterprise's internal and supply chain processes
Career Development Skills: Identify career-related strengths, skills and competencies, to critically reflect and identify needs.
Software Engineering: Understanding of techniques and methods used to develop reliable quality software.
Project and Change Management: Project management and change management concepts, tools, techniques and inherent risks associated.
Software Validation and Evolution: Fundamental knowledge and skills related to software validation and verification.
3-month Work Placement - Applied Learning Portfolio: Year 2 summer (June to end of August) students choose a Work Placement or an Industry-led Project



Career Opportunities

Graduates of this course will be equipped to transition into highly sought roles in Data Science, Enterprise Applications, Web Design and Project Management.
