About this Course

Workforce planning is a core business process which aligns changing organisation needs with people strategy. It can be the most effective activity an organisation can engage in. It doesn't need to be complicated and can be adjusted to suit the size and maturity of any organisation. It can provide market and industry intelligence to help organisations focus on a range of challenges and issues, and prepare for initiatives to support longer term business goals.
While the objectives/responsibilities of Strategic Workforce Planning often remains with senior management and HR Business partners, the programme enables front-line and middle management to understand how it adds value, how they can contribute and ultimately, bring more effective implementation. Therefore, the programme will equip front-line management and supervisory staff with the knowledge, skills and abilities to be proactive in aligning operational HR activities to organisational objectives led by national policies and strategies.
The fundamentals of the programme provide the "why", "what" and "how" for participants. Why are we doing it (service level improvements and objectives within context), what are the options available and how can we achieve our intentions (systems, models, processes and frameworks). Thus, participants will gain an appreciation of the strategic intent, the subsequent objectives and how does this translate into daily operational HR activities, through tools and applied examples. The objective is that participants will be able to take ownership of their contribution and through greater awareness and appreciation of the bigger picture can contribute more effectively. Participants will learn how to manage their attrition and retention through job enrichment and engagement, within an operational agenda. Knowledge of the connection between their activities and national strategies enables a greater integration of wider strategies, essentially to be more effective in their role. ˜Appropriate whole-of-organisation and whole-of-system approaches are required to address workforce planning challenges".

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements are a Level 8 degree with a minimum of Second Class Honours, Grade 2 in a related discipline or equivalent. IT Carlow operates a Recognition of Prior Experiential Learning (RPL) scheme whereby applicants may be considered, based on relevant work and other experience, for exemptions from programme modules and advanced entry.

All applicants will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
