The Labour market Review Information and Communication Technology 2016 states that Ireland is home to the top 10 technology companies in the world, as well as the top 5 security companies.
This course is a level 9 Postgraduate Diploma in Computing in Cybersecurity. The objective of the course is to guide learners who have good general experience in and knowledge of technical computing and augment their skills and knowledge in readiness to begin a career in Cybersecurity.
Forecasting the Future Demand for High-Level ICT Skills in Ireland, 2017-2022 report says that there was a shortfall of approximately 2 million cybersecurity professionals worldwide with many companies struggling to fill cybersecurity roles. The report goes on to state that Cybersecurity is a discipline where demand so outnumbers supply that new creative methods are being employed to upskill people from different backgrounds with the necessary skills.
There is a need to upskill jobseekers, people who are underemployed but seeking full employment and people who are in full employment but who need to reskill to ensure that their skills remain relevant to a changing workplace. This course is designed as a flexible part-time course. It will be run in a flexible manner by distance in the evenings and at weekends. Students can do two modules per session with 4 sessions per academic year over one academic year. We have significant experience delivering programmes on-campus and by distance learning to people in employment and we ensure our systems, policies and procedures take their needs into consideration.
The course will be available to applicants who meet the following criteria:
➢ A level-8 qualification in Computing.
➢ a level-7 qualification in a Computing with 3 years appropriate work-experience.
➢ Candidates who do not hold these qualifications may also apply on the basis of Recognised Prior
Learning which includes a combination of education, training and work experience. Candidates should
have some knowledge of computer networks and operating systems.

This course will be delivered part time (online) in the evenings. Delivery in this mode will facilitate upskilling and
reskilling the widest possible group of company employees without requiring employees to cease employment while
doing the course. As the course will be delivered online, it won’t matter where in the country students are located.

Upon completion, students have an opportunity to continue their studies and complete a Masters in Cybersecurity.

• A 2MB Internet connection is recommended for online classes. Additional notes and student updates will
be provided via Blackboard which is the online teaching support system (Virtual Learning Environment
(VLE)).
