About this Course

"Overall the programme was an excellent experience, it really opens your mind to new opportunities and enhances your knowledge and skills. The network of people I have met are very supportive of each other and open for collaboration which I find great. I think the Innovation Academy approach would enhance any business type in Ireland." Participant 2019/20

This part-time, live online course supports you to transition to the next stage of your career. Whilst grounded in academic rigour it focuses on action-learning and the application of concepts independently, and in multidisciplinary teams, to a series of challenges progressing to current real-life challenges for industry partners.

No specific idea or start-up experience is required. The Covid-19 Pandemic has accelerated an already growing appreciation for an Entrepreneurial Mindset as key to success in the rapidly changing world of work.

You will develop and test your own prototype products and services. You will receive tailored support as you examine your career options, identify your chosen path and develop your action plan for success.

Learn to think and act in an entrepreneurial manner, then apply this as you re-enter the workforce, start your own venture or reinvent your career.

Objectives

By taking this course participants will:

- Develop a mindset that enables you to realise your career aspirations (creative confidence & entrepreneurial thinking, resilience and growth mindset);

- Hone and develop a skill set that all entrepreneurs need and employers value (creative thinking, collaborative problem solving, communication & presentation skills, team working & networking skills);

- Solve current real-life challenges for industry partners (e.g. AIB, Abbott, Social Entrepreneurs Ireland, Bord Na Móna) and apply learning & tools to your own entrepreneurial project;

- Acquire a toolkit that helps you to validate and execute new ideas using key business tools and frameworks, including Design Thinking, Value Proposition Design and the Lean Start-up Methodology;

- Work in multidisciplinary teams and gain exposure to new perspectives and alternative skill sets;

- Learn from entrepreneurial practitioners who have ‘walked the walk’

- Build a network with a global community of innovators and entrepreneurs who have the skills to lead change in organisations and start new ones.

Entry Requirements

1. Applicants must satisfy the HEA's requirements to be eligible for funding under the Springboard+ Initiative. See www.springboardcourses.ie/eligibility

2. Applicants must satisfy UCD's requirements for entry to this postgraduate, level 9 course. This means applicants should demonstrate that they hold an undergraduate degree (NFQ Level 8 or equivalent) or equivalent professional qualification.

Under UCD's Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy, consideration will be given on a case by case basis to applicants who do not hold a primary degree but who can demonstrate extensive professional experience. Typically, such applicants would have five years or more experience where their role includes managing teams, leading projects, programmes or business units.

If you are applying under RPL, please review your CV to ensure that it clearly demonstrates the following-
a. Any experience of leadership and self-direction
b. Any experience of management or entrepreneurship
c. A description of employee, budget and client responsibilities

RPL applicants should also upload two recently dated professional/employment references. These should be on headed paper or from an official email address and including the referees name, role and email address.
