About this Course

The Higher Diploma in Science in Digital Marketing is a conversion course for graduates who wish to acquire core digital marketing skills in order to specialise in the field of digital marketing with a view to entering industry, progress professionally, or to undertake postgraduate studies in a related field. Participants will receive practical training in key digital skills such as digital marketing management, digital marketing technologies and tools, digital content creation, online communication platforms, e-commerce, cloud technologies for marketing, digital planning, advertising and communications. Participants will work towards the completion of a digital portfolio as their capstone project. Overarching, the programme aims to provide students with sufficient knowledge about digital marketing business environments in order to enter the digital marketing world and/or progress to a role within a general or specific field or subfield of digital marketing. This programme equips graduates to work in all industry sectors.
The aim of this programme is to provide learners the opportunity to up-skill and/or re skill in the discipline of digital marketing practice. It will provide an opportunity for those who wish to join the exciting and dynamic digital marketing sector by developing learners' knowledge of the theory and practice of digital marketing necessary for them to perform at postgraduate level and secure employment in the areas of digital marketing in a broad range of sectors.
This is Level 8 Postgraduate Higher Diploma on the NFQ and will run two evenings per week for two years.

Entry Requirements

The Higher Diploma in Science in Digital Marketing is aimed at learners with a Level 8 honours bachelor degree in a non-cognate / cognate area who wish to specialise in the field of digital marketing with a view to entering industry, progress professionally or to undertake postgraduate studies in a related field.
Learners with a Level 7 ordinary bachelor’s degree in a non-cognate / cognate area may also find this programme of interest. It may also be of interest to those who are self-employed, or in employment and who require cross-skilling or up-skilling in digital marketing skills. Applications not covered under the above entry criteria will be considered on an individual basis, through the submission of a portfolio in accordance with the DBS Recognition of Prior Learning. All applicants should have a minimum of ordinary-level Leaving Certificate maths, or be able to demonstrate equivalent competency in maths at this level.

Career Opportunities

With a predicted 150,000 digital jobs and an internet economy worth €21.1 billion by 2021 and the acceleration of growth since the pandemic, the digital economy has taken centre stage in Ireland’s economic recovery with the industry creating hundreds of jobs every month.
Graduates of this programme will acquire the necessary skills and acumen to appraise and operationalise digital marketing opportunities and challenges and effectively integrate these into decision-making roles with an organisation. The programme will enable graduates to work in diverse range of digital marketing roles and/or be in a position to take up further Level 9 postgraduate studies, such as the Master of Science in Digital Marketing.

Delivery Notes

DBS aims to give you the best possible campus and blended learning experience. All classes for 2021/22 will be taught on a hybrid learning basis. This means you will be on campus for some classes and other classes will be online. Your timetable will be available once you register for the programme and will advise you of which classes are on campus and which classes will be taken online. You may choose to take all online should you wish.

RPL Information

Applicants who do not have a Level 8 qualification may also be considered through the college’s normal RPL procedures. Relevant professional experience may be taken into account and individuals will be assessed on a case-by-case basis through DBS RPL procedures.

Please note it is extremely important that you use only one email address when you register with Springboard. This email address which you use to log into springboard must match the email address that you put on your Springboard application form. If it is different it will cause confusion through the application process and you may end up missing any email communication from Springboard.

Documents required are as follows:
1. Transcripts of Results for all relevant qualifications listed in your application. Please also ensure you send us a copy of any certification you would have received from these qualifications. A Diploma Supplement will also suffice and it must contact a breakdown of all subjects taken for the duration of the course.

2. For applicants who do not meet the entry requirements or have a non-cognate qualification, we would require an up-to-date CV which includes all aspects of your career to date, employed, unemployed or returner etc.

3. A copy of your current passport or driver’s licence.

4. Non-EU applicants will be required to provide a copy of their GNIB card showing a Stamp 4 or Stamp 4 EU FAM. You will need to provide us with evidence of your first Stamp 4 Visa and your current Stamp 4.

5. For applicants whose first language is not English and who have not previously undertaken a degree taught through English, evidence must be provided of proficiency in English language equivalent to B2+ or above on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFRL). This must be evidenced through a recognised English Language test such as IELTS, Cambridge Certificate, PTE or DBS English Assessment. Test certificates should be dated within the last two years to be considered valid.

6. Verification of Status Required:

• In Employment - please provide a recently dated letter from your current employer on headed paper, signed and dated.
• Returner - Please provide a letter signed by the Commissioner for Oaths confirming your current status. A form to complete the process is available here: https://springboardcourses.ie/pdfs/Declaration%20for%20Returners%20(2019).pdf
• Department of Social Protection - Please provide a recently dated letter confirming that you are on the live register detailing which payment you are in receipt of or a letter confirming that you are signing for social insurance contribution credits.
• Previously Self Employed - A letter from your accountant or revenue confirming that your business is no longer trading.

7. For applicants who do not meet the entry requirements of a particular programme but may possess relevant professional work experience, may also be considered through the college’s normal RPL procedures. Individuals will be assessed on a case-by-case basis through DBS RPL procedures. A personal statement will need to be completed and submitted (approx. 300 words) detailing what has motivated you to apply for this particular programme and how you believe it will fit into your career objectives.
Please note an interview may be required to assess your suitability for the course.
